Government State Unions Are Killing Us
There needs to be agreement with both state and municipalities to reduce overall taxes on its citizens. That includes, property taxes, sales taxes, licenses, use taxes, application fees, dog licenses, etc. I don't think we should keep thinking up ways to tax people.
Government needs to stop this out of control spending spree. If they keep asking for referendums, and then spend it faster than it comes in, what is the answer? Imagine what shape your personal finances would be in with such a mindset!
Lots of money has been spent for the administration offices for municipal and state workers, company cars, high-end health insurance and pension perks, not to mention that they can retire in 20 years at 75% pay. It seems like the higher their wages get the more comforts they want. Not only that but they walk up the wage scale into the stratosphere.
In a normal union there are apprentices for a particular trade (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, laborers). After 5 years they become journeymen. There IS NO EXTRA PAY for years of extra service or extra pay for education or any other perks.
The unions need to be competitive and contractors who hire these tradesmen want their moneys worth. Likewise, the taxpayers should get their moneys worth with teachers, policemen and all state worker unions. In the real world private sector unions, an employee can get fired for not doing his job or just about any reason at all. The employer calls the union and gets another replacement. That all there is to it. Tenure doesn’t exist.
With government municipal and state unions it seems you have to commit a felony to get fired, and even that, sometimes, doesn’t work. Why not have the state unions structured like labor unions. That’s what a union is supposed to be about. If the state need help for a few days or week, they could hire someone for a few weeks, not a lifetime! That type of hiring policy could apply to cops, teachers and every category of state worker.
Extra expenses from local government usually effect higher sales and use tax and property taxes. Extra property taxes raises rents the landlord needs to cover additional property tax expenses. People buy a house and now I can't afford to pay taxes. The tax policies succeed in making more homeless people and richer state workers and banks. Way to think about the little people!
Will the spending ever stop? How can we possibly keep up with our rising property tax burden? It’s getting ridiculous! It would be nice to have a web based application to see any and all financial transactions between districts, municipalities, state government and whoever is doing business in real time.
Why do liberal school officials poison the minds of the college students who vote to spend more for big brother politics? What a state union set up! We don’t need more promises that turn out to be more political rhetoric.
